CS 1100, Introduction to Game Development
In Fall 2003, Dr. Chamillard developed and taught a freshman-level course in which we create 2D games using drag-and-drop tools; some programming is also required in the course. The course is strongly recommended for computer science majors, but it's open to everyone. It's also a required course for the Game Design Minor discussed below. We've offered this course every fall semester since the initial offering in Fall 2003.
Game Design and Development Minors
In Spring 2005, Drs. Chamillard and Semwal developed and got approval for a new Game Design and Development Minor, which we started offering in Fall 2005. We've since split that minor into two separate minors: one that focuses on Game Design and one that focuses on Game Programming. Both minors require 21 credit hours of coursework. All classess must be completed with a grade of 'C' or better. A 2.0 minimum GPA is required on all coursework. The student will be responsible for any prerequisites to required courses.
Game Design Minor
CS 1100: Introduction to Game Development
GDD 2100: Game Design for Diverse Populations
GDD 2150: Fundamental Game Design Concepts
GDD 3100: User Interface Design for Games
GDD 3400: Artificial Intelligence for Games
Two other 3000 or 4000 level design intensive GDD courses (6 credit hours)
Game Programming + 3D Minor
CS 1450: Data Structures and Algorithms OR GDD 2200: Object Oriented Analysis, Design and Implementation
GDD 2150: Fundamental Game Design Concepts
CS 3350: Introduction to Game Design and Development
CS 4800: Computer Graphics
CS 1300: Computational Linear Algebra OR MATH 3130: Introcduction to Linear Algebra
Two other courses selected from programming-intensive GDD 3000 or 4000 level courses or CS 4780: Advanced 3D Games and Digital Content Creation. Graduate-level Games and Media Integration Courses may also be used for these two courses
br>Bachelor of InnovationTM Degree in Game Design and Development
In the Fall 2005 semester, an interdisciplinary team of faculty formed the Game Design and Development Program Committee to develop a proposal for a Bachelor's degree in Game Design and Development. This degree program was officially approved by the Colorado Regents in November 2006, so we started offering this degree program in Fall 2007.
