minutes of the March 6 IAAC meeting 1. The meeting began at 10:55 a.m. Members attending were Athletic Director Steve Kirkham; Faculty representatives Jackie Berning, and Charlie Shub; Academic Coordinator Robert King; SAAC representative Lindsey Myers; Staff Representative Glenn Steimling; and UBAC Representative Al Schoffstall. Also in attendance was Coach Caldwell. 2. A motion by Al Schoffstall seconded by Steve Kirkham to approve the minutes of the October December and January meetings passed without dissent. 3. Coach Caldwell presented the season wrap up for woman's basketball. The team was invited to the Disney Tip off Classic in Orlando and won all three games. The team had several good wins during the season. Coach is proud of the players' efforts. Three seniors will be graduating in May, and one will be graduating next December. Caldwell is pleased with her recruiting class. She has two players who have signed letters of intent (one from in state) and three (all from in state) who have given commitments. All are superb students, and several competed in multiple sports in high school. Coach Johnson has retired. His place will be taken by Assistant Coach Manning who will also be completing her MBA. 4. Director Kirkham gave his report. He has been heavily involved with the branding and marketing effort on campus. He has also been involved in working with the architects on the events center. The west side of the court will be designed for students. and the seating on the east side will back up to Dwire Hall. The new facility will contain a training room and locker rooms for visitors and officials. The current locker and training rooms will be converted to three locker rooms. The NCAA has started mandating audits every three years for Division II. The department was reviewed by the CU Internal Audit team and the results were positive. Kirkham led discussion on scholarship athletes who have issues with participating over vacation periods, and an issue involving a faculty member with inflexible attendance policies. Kirkham reported that both new soccer coaches, Nichole Rick for the women and Henry Ellis for the men, were on board. Finally, he reported that what used to be the exercise room above the old gym was being converted into offices for the coaching staff. 5. Shub gave the FAR report. He reported on his experiences at the NCAA convention. The awards picnic will be held on Sunday, April 20 at 4 diamonds at approximately 6:00PM following the softball game. The CUSPY (CU replication of ESPY) awards will be presented in the gym an April 29 at 8:00 PM SAAC is planning a food drive. Almost 30 student athletes participated in Dr. Seuss days by reading to students at Will Rodgers elementary school. SAAC presented hand crafted valentines cards to children at the childrens hospital at memorial hospital. They visited both the pediatrics wing and the mommy and baby floor. 7. Under old business, Shub reported that the conversion of IAAC policies to Administrative Policy Statements was progressing. He reported being informed by Debbie Lapioli that the drafts would be taken to the leadership team shortly. 8. Under old business, Glenn Steimling reported that the Sport Management program is doing well. Over 30 students have been accepted. These students have a 3.5 GPA, a 24.4 ACT and an index of 112. Another 20 students have been invited to participate. They have similar grades and test scores. Several will be student athletes. 9. Robert King reported that advising for current student athletes would be starting soon and delineated the scheduled events. 10. At 11:55, the meeting was adjourned.
