UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AT COLORADO SPRINGS
STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAAC) BYLAWS
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs serves a three-fold purpose, and it is as follows:
The membership of the SAAC will be composed of two members from each of the 10 varsity sports at CU-Colorado Springs. Both members may not be seniors, and one must be of sophomore standing or higher. Each pair of representatives is responsible to be the liaison between their respective team and the SAAC.
Requirements for participation in the CU-Colorado Springs SAAC are: to maintain academic eligibility throughout the course of the school term, to adhere and support the said purposes of the SAAC, and to attend the monthly meeting of the committee unless previously excused.
Elections are to be held within each varsity team prior to the last SAAC meeting of the school year. Coaches are responsible to either choose representatives autonomously, or conduct an election from which each varsity team will nominate two representatives. These two representatives are to be present at the last SAAC meeting of the year in order to meet their fellow committee members and to become acquainted with their individual duties.
The executive committee will be composed of the CU-Colorado Springs Athletic Director, a faculty/staff advisor, and a four-person student committee which will be elected at the first meeting of each new school year. These student-held positions are: committee chairperson, representative to the Athletics Advisory Council (AAC), campus representative to the Conference SAAC, and recorder.
THE EXEMPLARY STUDENT-ATHLETE (ESA) PROGRAM
The SAAC is committed to advocating and pursuing individually the goals and standards set up though the ESA program. As elected members to a committee representing the student-athletes, it is the role of the SAAC representative to become part of the program and encourage other to do so as well. The values of academic achievement, pursuit of athletic excellence, leadership and character development, community involvement, and freedom from substance abuse are in direct correlation with the stated values of the SAAC at CU-Colorado Springs and are therefore an integral part of the committee’s existence.
