CS401 Linux Installation Exercise
Enter your login and password of our UNIX Lab machines
for verification. Please select one of the following available time slots
and press the reserve button. You will get a return web page confirm the
reservation. You can cancel by press the cancel submit on the reserved
time slot. Try to limit to one reservation slot at a time.
At your time slot, bring your classnote, the Redhat
6.2 installation guide, and check out the Redhat Linux
6.2 CD and boot floppy from me.

Write down briefly the interactions in each step.

Create an account for yourself during the installation.

Turn on the Linuxconf network access and create a guest
account through web access remotely with http://<machine name>:98/.

Create a web page, index.html, on /home/httpd/html directory,
with "Apache web server installed by <your name> for CS401" as the heading.

Ftp your personal web page to your public_html directory
and make sure all directories are allowed with right permissions by Apache
web server.

Ftp sessionvar.pl from ~cs401/public_html/cgi-bin/cs401
on our CS Unix machines to the /home/httpd/cgi-bin directory and
make sure it has the right permission as cgi scripts.

Verify your installation by accessing and print a copy
of the following web pages

http://<machine name>/

http://<machine name>/~<your login>/

http://<machine name>/cgi-bin/sessionvar.pl

from other PCs in ENS 140. Ask me to check the final
installation. Here <machine name> is bilbo.uccs.edu or frodo.uccs.edu
depending on which machine you sign up.
