We only know the last sad squires ride slowly towards
the sea. And a new people takes the land:
and still it is not we.

2 AGP REFUTES SONIA'S REMARKS [S:24-AUG-98]
   ---------------------------
The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has strongly refuted the allegations of
`its total failure to administer the State' by All India Congress
Committee president Sonia Gandhi. The AGP in a statement said that
Mrs Gandhi who had no knowledge about the problems of Assam came for
the first time to the State and, as a matter of routine made some
wild allegations against the AGP. They said she had no real concern
for the flood-affected distressed people of Assam.

The AGP spokesmen, Digen Bora and Nurul Hussain said that the
integrity and sovereignty of the country is at stake at the hands of
the Congress because the party had won the last Lok Sabha elections
with the help of the banned ULFA. The president of the state
committee of the Congress party Tarun Gogoi has already announced
publicly that his party would agree to all conditions of the ULFA.

They cautioned Ms Gandhi against playing politics with terrorism. She
should realize that when two of the distinguished members (Mrs Indira
Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi) of her own family lost their lives at the
hands of the terrorists, she should think and act for putting an end
to the problem and not to make it more complex with politics.
